CASB – Cloud Access Security Broker

Cloud Access Security Broker (CASB)

Provides security for accessing cloud applications. CASBs act as mediators between cloud applications and users, verifying that users are authorized to access the cloud applications, monitoring for suspicious activities, and enforcing security policies.

CASBs are generally considered a legacy solution when it comes to securing SaaS use, especially when CASBs are compared to automated SaaS security. The overall purpose of a CASB is further diminished when the risks of Shadow IT are expanded with the distributed nature of the the recent hybrid work model.

CASBs are great for telling you how a breach happened and what damage it did. SSPMs are great at preventing that breach from happening.
